Abstract

This research aims to portray the dynamics of community life, particularly in Java Island, through its
rich customs and traditions as depicted in the novel Langgam Nyi Bagelen by Yusuf Mahesa Dewo Pasiro. The
study focuses on socio-cultural values based on Koentjaraningrat’s theory of seven universal cultural elements:
religious systems and rituals, social organization, livelihood systems, knowledge systems, technology and
equipment, language, and the arts. The findings show that the language system is the most dominant (14 data
points), followed by social organization (11 data points), knowledge systems (8), arts (7), and religion, livelihood,
and technology with 6 data points each. In conclusion, the novel reflects the diversity of Javanese cultural elements
and serves as an important medium for preserving and documenting local wisdom through the lens of literary
sociology.
